"Teach me Thy Way"

This teaching/learning month seems like a great opportunity to share one of my favorite hymns. I'm currently teaching it to my oldest two, one verse at a time. I love hearing their little voices singing it, and am praying that it is planting seeds of teachability, obedience, and trust in their young hearts.

Teach me Thy Way, O Lord; Teach me Thy Way!
Thy gracious aid afford; Teach me Thy Way!
Help me to walk a-right, more by faith less by sight,
Lead me with Heavn'ly light; Teach me Thy Way!

When I am sad at heart, Teach me Thy Way!
When earthly joys depart, Teach me Thy Way!
In hours of loneliness, in times of dire distress,
In failure or success, Teach me Thy Way!

When doubts and fears arise; Teach me Thy Way!
When storms o'er spread the skies; Teach me Thy Way!
Shine through the cloud and rain, thro' sorrow, toil and pain,
Make Thou my pathway plain; Teach me Thy Way!

Long as my life shall last; Teach me Thy Way!
Where'er my lot be cast; Teach me Thy Way!
Until the race is run, until the journey's done,
Until the crown is won; Teach me Thy Way!

- B. Mansell Ramsey, 1849-1943

  1. Sarah - I love this idea of teaching your kids hymms! We are still trying to work on memorizing Scripture as part of our everyday routine - but things put to music stick so much easier, it seems. Thanks for the simple but inspiring post.

  2. This is great! Maybe Greg can teach this one to our kids. I just ordered a great DVD on the history and authors of a couple hymns that we are going to incorporate into our school year next year. There is such a richness to hymns that seems to be missing in modern praise songs, though there is definitely a beauty to both!
